Sanctuaries in the Snow

The Dog Pound Shrine (Aspen Highlands)

With only one exception, the Dog Pound Shrine at Aspen Highlands is a shrine dedicated to deceased pet dogs.  The exception is that there is one photo of a cat here; all the rest of the photos are of dogs.  The Dog Pound Shrine includes a structure made of logs and it has a roof.  Also, there are two benches and a chair to sit on here.  Many photos of various dogs are attached to the log structure and the trees around it.  For some strange reason the location of this Shrine was shown for a number of years on the trail map for children (The Kid's Mountain Guide).

Photos of it are below.

If you have Dog Pound Shrine information or photos that you would like to share for use on this page, please send to the author at [email protected].

This shrine is covered in the book, "Sanctuaries in the Snow--The Shrines and Memorials of Aspen/Snowmass."  The book may be purchased on this page on this site:  http://www.aspensnowmassshrines.com/index.php?The-Book

(There is also a shrine for deceased pet cats, called "The Kitty Cat Shrine," which is located on Snowmass.  See this page on this site:   http://www.aspensnowmassshrines.com/index.php?The-Kitty-Cat-Shrine-Snowmass.  There is another shrine on Aspen Highlands dedicated to dogs.  It is called the K-9 Shrine; see this page on this site: http://www.aspensnowmassshrines.com/index.php?31-the-k-9-shrine-aspen-highlands)
